Employee Relations Director

 Job Summary


DPI Specialty Foods, a market leader in the food distribution industry, currently has an opening for an experienced Corporate Employee Relations Director.  While based at our facility in Upper Marlboro, MD, this position is responsible for the prevention and effective resolution of all employment-related legal activity for five US locations.

Works in conjunction with local site HR, local management and legal counsel to respond to legal claims and recommends programs to ensure positive morale, prevent legal claims and reduce employee turnover.

Provides employee relations support, guidance and counseling to site HR and management resulting in effective resolution of issues.  Maintains a highly visible profile to site HR and management and maintains an open, sincere disposition for concerns and suggestions.  Keeps abreast of changes to Federal and State employment laws, communicates such changes to local site HR and suggests policy changes as necessary.  Recommends effective training and other programs as needed; performs audits of site HR practices to ensure policies and procedures are being followed.

Conducts investigations of alleged harassment/discrimination claims and plays an active role in employee grievance/arbitration meetings.  Works in conjunction with legal counsel as necessary to prepare responses to legal claims.  Represents DPI at mediations and legal hearings.

 Requirements

 Ideal candidate must have:

• 7-10 years experience in the Human Resources function, with emphasis on employment/labor law.
• BS degree in Human Resources, Employment Law or similar relevant discipline is required, MS or MBA preferred.
• Must have a proven track record of effectively documenting investigations and preparing responses to legal claims. 
• Extensive knowledge of Federal and multi-state labor laws.
• Excellent people skills including the ability to resolve employee conflicts within the organization.
• Must be organized and able to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Teamwork and continuous improvement skills and experience.
• Excellent communication skills required – both written and verbal.
• Analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Proficiency with Word and Excel.
• Some travel required.
